I am emailing City Council to voice my support for the full property tax increase proposal. My son was born in 1996 and since that year he has had 26 birthdays and Sandy City has had two property tax increases. I am astounded that this beautiful and safe city I live in has only had 2 minimal property tax increases while going thru the deepest recession since World War II and a pandemic. I believe that shows many capital projects and other city needs have been put on the back burner for a very long time.
Sandy is one of the higher populated cities in Salt Lake County, yet one of the lowest ranking cities receiving property tax funding. Even if the property tax increase is approved for the full requested amount, we will still be among the lowest tax rates of similar cities in Utah. I trust the many employees who have presented the proposed budget to you with analysis and data and to substantiate their requests, have the city's best interest at heart.
I really liked a comment from a citizen a few weeks ago and I believe a lot of citizens would agree. Even though he was not happy about the recommended increase, he understood the necessity of having it approved. He also mentioned, in the future, he would like an assessment of potential property tax changes every year, to be adjusted with an increase or decrease, instead of 2 property tax increases in 26 years.
I would also like to add, as much as I respect Dave Ramsey's debt snowball method and cash envelope system, I believe running the budget of a household and the budget of a multi-million-dollar city are two very different scenarios.
    Thank you for listening.
